MONTERO - VERBRUGGEN

Stravinsky Evening

This programme, which offers no fewer than two world premières for Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, offers an unprecedented dialogue with Les Ballets Russes, particularly the pieces which saw Stravinsky reach musical heights.

PULCINELLA - "THE LOSERS” | CREATED BY JEROEN VERBRUGGEN
Despised because of his appearance, Pulcinella is the Comedia del arte character on whom all types of harassment rain down. In his instinctive and physical style, Jeroen Verbruggen, revisits this Ballets Russes character through an interpretation which highlights the way in which marginal people are stigmatised today. For the choreographer, the rejects, the “losers,” are worth more than we believe. At a time when ridicule has become the great distraction, Jeroen Verbruggen offers us a knockout production which leaves an indelible mark.

L’OISEAU DE FEU - "FIREBIRD" | CREATED BY GOYO MONTERO
Inspired by L’Oiseau de Feu, where two powerful people clash to conquer the beauties of a magical universe, "Firebird" by Goyo Montero offers an exceptional interpretation of the Ballets Russes masterpiece. Its choreographical style which puts the emphasis on fluid ensemble movements is reminiscent of those clouds of birds which gather then break apart, only to reunite a moment later. His Firebird offers a superb vision of two worlds which extend, intertwine and, through their struggles, generate those movements of rare intensity which are this Spanish choreographer’s signature.
