In New York, in the 1950s, two rival street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks rule the roost in the West district. Tony, ex head of the Jets who has now distanced himself from the gang, and Maria, the sister of the
head of the Sharks, fall in love, but the couple must endure the opposing forces of their respective clans.
