In the upper room | THARP

This ballet is one of many  dances  whose meaning is generated by the  the richness of its choreographic execution.  With music composed by Philip Glass, it radiates physicality and that vivacity which is so characteristic of  Twyla Tharp, who engages in a parallel exploration of contemporary and classical ballet. These ballets overflow with Twyla Tharp’s ever renewable energy. A great dancer-poet of popular American culture, she captures the urgency and the vigor of the contemporary landscape with her singular but always communicative style. By integrating diverse influences, her choreography breathes life into the classical vocabulary, using inflections from jazz and pop, creating a perfect dance correlative for the world we live in.
