Firebird | MONTERO

Inspired by L’Oiseau de Feu, where two powerful people clash to conquer the beauties of a magical universe, "Firebird" by Goyo Montero offers an exceptional interpretation of the Ballets Russes masterpiece. Its choreographical style which puts the emphasis on fluid ensemble movements is reminiscent of those clouds of birds which gather then break apart, only to reunite a moment later. His Firebird offers a superb vision of two worlds which extend, intertwine and, through their struggles, generate those movements of rare intensity which are this Spanish choreographer’s signature.

"Stravinsky’s Firebird was created from a libretto by Fokine as a dance tale - conte dansé, inspired by Russian legends. For our version we wanted to keep the Fabula feel, but speak of themes that as in all legends are relevant to their time and draw from moments in our history. Our Piece, our «Tale» is a story of love and betrayal, a story of conquest, extermination, appropriation and destruction of the lives and resources of others and can be extrapolated even to what we are doing with our planet. The Firebird is for me the soul, the seed of life that will always return once we have finished with ourselves, and destroyed everything around us." Goyo Montero
