Who Cares?

"Who Cares?" is the title of an old song, written in 1931 by George and Ira Gershwin. For this ballet, premiered on the 5 february 197O by the New York City Ballet, George Balanchine put together traditional balletic forms, and certain songs by George Gershwin, considered as american classics. Balanchine appreciated their freshness, their piquancy, their vivacity and their ability to transcend their own era: mixing insouciance and innocence, they combine the profoundly personal and the language of popular culture.
