CINDERELLA

Jean-Christophe Maillot

In his version of Cinderella, Jean-Christophe Maillot uses the context of a blended family where mourning is impossible to imagine for vain, idle characters trying to exist in a world dripping with artifice. The choreographer opposes this world with the simplicity and stripping down of Cinderella. Her naked foot becomes the symbolic object of the ballet and celebrates this part of the body without which dance would not exist.
