Friends of the Ballets

Dear Friends,

For over a century, Monaco has contributed to writing the most illustrious pages in the history of ballet and has become today a major hub of creation and expression. Inspired by the Ballets Russes, which reinvented ballet in the setting of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo’s Salle Garnier, the Principality has become a key player in the international world of dance. When HRH the Princess of Hanover founded the Compagnie des Ballets de Monte-Carlo in 1985, she opened the way to presenting many world premieres of original creations and inviting the most talented choreographers. Thus, for over twenty years, Choreographer-Director Jean-Christophe Maillot has mingled tradition and innovation in his own very personal style. With nearly sixty ballets created in Monaco, he has offered the Company a repertoire thanks to which it can go on tour and be acclaimed the world over. Open to all artists, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, Académie Princesse Grace and the Monaco Dance Forum cultivate their global impact and contribute to the Principality’s artistic repute.
