The Rite of Spring | BEJART

« What is spring, if not this immense primitive force long asleep under the cloak of winter, which suddenly explodes and ignites the world, whether at the level of plants, animals or humans?
Human love in its physical appearance, symbolizes the act by which the deity creates the cosmos, and the joy it derives from it. At a time when anecdotal boundaries of the human mind fall gradually, and when we can start talking about a global culture, let us reject any folklore that is not universal and retain only the essential forces of man, which are the same in all continents, in all latitudes, at all times.
Let this ballet therefore be stripped of all picturesque artifice, let it be the Hymn of praise to the union of man and woman deep in their body, union of heaven and earth, dance of life and death, eternal as spring! » Maurice Béjart
